My Lunchbox for Non-Readers is a fun, hands-on ESL lesson created especially for kindergarten and preschool learners who are not reading yet.

Unlike the My Lunchbox – Early Reading lesson for first graders, this version is picture-based and does not require children to read words. Students learn and practise everyday lunchbox food vocabulary through visual prompts, speaking, matching and interactive games.

The lesson begins with food flashcards to introduce the vocabulary and then moves into playful activities where children repeatedly hear, identify and say the target words. Activities include Feed the Lunchbox, where children physically feed the correct food into a lunchbox, My Lunch Bingo, Let’s Pack Your Lunch, a sensory-bin option, Spin the Wheel, and a memory-style race to pack a lunchbox.

The pack includes a step-by-step visual lesson guide, showing teachers the recommended order of the activities, as well as clear instructions for every activity, so teachers can prepare the materials and teach the lesson with confidence.

Children practise useful spoken language naturally throughout the lesson, including naming foods and talking about what is in their lunchbox, while developing vocabulary through repetition and play.
