Walking Through the Jungle | 2 ESL Lessons for Preschool & Kindergarten

Take your young learners on a fun journey through the jungle with this 2-lesson ESL resource inspired by the story Walking Through the Jungle by Julie Lacome.

Designed especially for preschool and kindergarten learners, this hands-on package gives children lots of opportunities to learn and practise jungle animals, colours, numbers 1–5, animal sounds and movements through storytelling, sensory play, matching, sorting, counting and movement-based activities.

The resource includes a wide variety of interactive activities such as colour sorting with jungle mats and a spinner, a jungle sensory bin, animal and number matching, roll-and-find games, story sequencing, feed-the-animal activities, a story glove, animal sound guessing cards and a complete movement path where children walk, creep, stomp, leap, swing and wade their way through the jungle.

The activities are designed for very young learners, so they are highly visual, repetitive and easy to adapt. Younger children can focus on pointing, matching, moving and repeating, while older preschoolers can practise simple language such as “It’s a tiger,” “It’s red,” and counting from 1 to 5.

The package is organised into two complete lessons, with a suggested activity order to help teachers easily prepare and teach each session. It also works beautifully as part of a zoo animals or jungle animals theme and is a great addition to any preschool or kindergarten ESL programme.
